  • Buyers : questions to ask yourself in 2016

    Business Travel Lounge BTI

As we acclimatise to 2016, there are interesting questions for travel buyers around the evolution of travel spend. I particularly like some of the ideas around what is referred to as ‘choice architecture’ by UK-based industry veteran Chris Pouney, partner at Nina & Pinta. The concept is around how buyers should be carefully designing and constructing their travel policies through the architecture of choice.

    Severnside Consulting Ltd

In a career spanning more than 20 years, including 7 years heading travel for a major global financial organisation, Severnside Consulting Ltd (SSC) founder Chris Pouney observed that global travel programs often fail to be fully implemented in the Middle East due to a lack of understanding of the political, cultural and technological landscape. In early 2012, SSC stated its intention to deliver an in-depth research paper to investigate best-in-class travel management in the Middle East. A key part of this study was an in-depth benchmarking exercise conducted with 20 major global organisations representing a travel spend of >$3BN.

In partnership with sponsors Amadeus, Premier Inn and Travelport, and endorsed by industry body ACTE (Association of Corporate Travel Executives), the paper was launched at the ACTE Global Conference in Rome in October 2012 to the worlds leading travel executives.

'Sahar' meaning 'New Dawn' in Arabic, perfectly describes the opportunities for managed business travel in this region.

Economic forecasters indicate that recovery could be relatively jobless meaning the importance of self-enterprise will grow aligned with the need to utilise e-commerce, e-services and e-marketing.

The VET partners all specialise in common service sector areas of food and hospitality, sport and wellbeing management, and tourism. Early partner discussions identified that the necessary infrastructure to equip VET staff with the business skills, knowledge, business start up networks and business information/e-resources, required to meet VET student and graduate needs to set up their own businesses, are currently not in place in the VET partner context.

The aims and objectives of the VEBSU project will be to transfer business start-up information, e-resources, models of business facilitation and networking skills to a new audience of VET staff, students and graduates.
